Project Overview
Following my work on Advent Stories, I was invited to continue with the production team for Eastertide Stories. For this project, I was integrated more fully into the technical process and given partial responsibility for studio operations in addition to post-production editing and sound design. I received full access to scripts, cue sheets, and had direct communication with directors and producers.
Challenges
The main technical challenge arose from working within an unfamiliar studio environment and software configuration. Recording sessions were conducted using single-track capture software that required exporting into professional digital audio software for further editing and sound processing. Consequently, I needed to build proficiency with new recording systems while maintaining strict broadcast delivery standards.
Workflow and Techniques
To meet these demands, I independently familiarised myself with the recording setup and created a stable workflow that moved efficiently from recording to editing, mixing, and mastering. This included developing consistent file-naming and archiving protocols to support larger multi-session projects.
Dialogue editing prioritised pacing and narrative intelligibility, while equalisation and dynamic processing were applied to produce a tonal consistency across cast performances and recording sessions. Sound cues from the script were implemented precisely to support narrative emphasis and dramatic timing.
Completed mixes were mastered in accordance with broadcast loudness standards (EBU R128) before delivery.
Outcomes and Learning
Eastertide Stories was delivered on time and to broadcast standards. The project marked a key professional development milestone, transitioning from late-stage corrective editing to full involvement in studio production workflows.
It strengthened my skills in adapting to new technologies, collaborating closely with directors and producers, and maintaining technical consistency under evolving production conditions.
Following these successful collaborations, I was invited to take on a larger technical leadership role for the audiobook ‘A Boy Called Porro.’
